Japanese sword and staff arts in Columbia, MD

Maryland Kenkonkai is a practice group for traditional Japanese martial arts in Columbia, MD. We train in two arts: Nakamura Ryu Battodo (sword) and Shindo Muso Ryu Jodo (staff). Members can train in either or both arts.

Nakamura Ryu Battodo is a Japanese sword style for attacking, defending, and cutting with a katana, the sword of the samurai.

Shindo Muso Ryu Jodo is a Japanese staff style for stopping a fight with a sword-wielding opponent by using a four foot staff, using the minimum necessary force.
